life is a puzzle mr.green eyesApril 2, 2004 prev/next

exploding only to bleed out onto the pavement, this vast expanse of mutilated city space, caught under the glaring lights. scowling at us as we're trapped beneath their scrutiny, never any more than what they choose to make us. they are bright like miniature suns, the demi-gods of the city, and they are the masters of our fate. stop, go, turn, stand under the light to get a good look at the face of your attacker, maybe he'll run screaming. it was always kind of like that.

and then there was the bright look in his eyes like he couldn't get enough of looking up at the sky, like they absorbed all that blue into themselves. he was always so greedy that way, taking it all for himself and leaving none for the eyes of the hopeless dreamers who could only sit on the sidelines and wish they were him or that they were good enough to stand beside him. god, he was like the ocean, the sky, and the forest all in one person and there's never been anything more overwhelming than that. he was always something else.

[Didnt anyone ever tell you; you were something special mr.green eyes.]

then there was the way that puzzle fell straight out of your hands, broken and scattered on the floor, a million bright pieces but horribly incomplete without being near each other. life is like that, with everyone interconnected in some way or another and when we lose contact all those pieces fall apart and become misunderstood because no one can see them for what they really are. and life is like that, because it's made up of millions of tiny details but when you really look at it, all they're doing is joining together to make the "big picture", to show us maybe what life really is. but as soon as you focus on one piece, one detail, you lose sight of everyone else and it falls apart. life is a puzzle, bold and beautiful and full of chaos.
